Here’s just a short list of some of the African aggregators and blog portals


Pan African Aggregators and blog portals:

Muti is a social bookmarking site inspired by reddit and Digg but dedicated to content of interest to Africans or those interested in Africa.

Pambazuka do great round ups of bloggers focused on Africa in English, French and Portugese. They also write good introductions to a variety of topics.

All Africa: A blog forum with bloggers from different corners of Africa. Some argue it’s a bit “messy” compared to other forums, but there is quite a variety of blogs.

African Path is a Kenyan web portal of blogs focused on Africa. Good introductions of the bloggers themselves to the right. A well organized site.

African Loft with the tagline “Where the People and the Friends of Africa Mingle” was launched in June 2007. A large proportion of the bloggers live in North America and you’ll need to log in to read some of the blog posts.

Global Voices is a non-profit global citizens’ media project. Global Voices aggregate, curate, and amplify the global conversation online. It is a blog forum for all corners of the world, but it is relatively easy to focus in on Africa or specific African countries. It's easy to search for and find articles and information.

Slate Afrique is both a newssite and an blog aggregator written in French. Just click on any country on the map and you'll get latest posts from their registered bloggers.

Africa On The Blog is an blog aggregator with selected featured posts, which is open for anyone with an African heritage.

http://africanarguments.org/  is a collective blog on social and political issues by the Royal African Society in the UK. Posts are written by activists, members and researchers.

Africa Good News is collective blog from South Africa presenting Africa in a positive way without ignoring her challenges

The Zeliza Post provides newsarticles and good blog commentaries on Pan African world. They also have a great resources section with lots links to blogforums etc.

Africa is a country  is a collective media blog written by quite witty researchers and activists both in Africa and elsewhere.

Pambazuka blog round up in French: The same type of blog updates as on the English pages, but there are not quite as many blog round ups in French.

African Agriculture is a good blog about African Agriculture that seeks to keep abreast of and analyzing news about African agriculture.

The African Feminist Forum is a good newsite and blog on feminist issues from many African countries.

AfriGadget  is a great collective blog about technology and innovation in Africa. Their website dedicated to showcasing the ways Africans are using creativity to overcome life’s challenges. A team of bloggers and readers contribute their pictures, videos and stories from around the continent.

The African Activist is a newsite and blog aiming to amplify Africa's lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender and intersex (LGBTI) voices.

Startup Africa is a collective blog on technology, innovation and entrepreneurship in Africa.

Development Impact  This blog is maintained by four researchers from the Development Research Group of the World Bank. Its aim is to cover all things related to impact evaluations and evaluative research.

Africa Can... End Poverty is the blog of Shanta Devarajan, World Bank Chief Economist for Africa.

Congo DR:

Le Congo Blog is a sporadicly updated collective blog about Congo DR written in French.

Egypt:

The Arabist Blog is written by journalists. The blog provides great news commentaries and insights on topics in Egypt and on regional issues.

Kenya:

The Kenyan Blog Aggregator presents a list of Kenyan bloggers and recent Kenyan blog posts.

The Kenyan blogs Web ring, started on the 5th of July 2004. It is a web ring devoted to blogs about Kenya or written by Kenyans.

Kwani Trust was established in 2003. This Kenyan Trust is dedicated to nurturing and developing Kenya and Africa's intellectual and creative resources through strategic literary interventions.

Ushahidi started during the crisis following the Kenyan election in December 2007. On the 9th of January 2008, a group of Kenyan bloggers had put together a mash up and createdUshahidi a site for people to send SMS or email reports of acts of violence direct to the site. Recently, Ushahidi also deployed in DR Congo!

Nigerian Bloggers is a good tool to find Nigerian blogs you're looking for! Perhaps not surprisingly, not all are from Nigeria, but this site has quite a diversity of good writers and it is relatively easy to navigate and search for good Nigerian blogs.

Omojuwa Blog is a collective blog about politics and social issues in Nigeria

Morocco:

Mamfakinch.com is a collective citizen blog connected to the February
20th  democratic movement in Morocco. The blog is written in French, but with a translated English version available.

Maroc Blogs is a Moroccan blog aggregator, most posts are written in French or/and Arabic, a few  in English.

Tunisia:

Nawaat de Tunisie is a collective citizen blog which played a central role in the revolution of Tunisia. Most posts are only available in French.

Kubatana Blog is collective blog and information portal written by NGO-workers, activists and researchers both in Zimbabwe or elsewhere.

Sokwanele -This is Zimbabwe  is a collective blog rich with nuances and details written by opposition activists both in Zimbabwe or in diaspora.

South Africa:

Blog Forums:Thought Leader is a blog forum of the South African newspaper Mail and Guardian. This popular blog forum has lots of good writers. It is also  very easy to navigate this site and search for articles.

The Times Planet Blog is the blog forum of the South African newspaper The Times. This forum has quite a diversity of writers and includes everything from blogs exclusively committed to commenting on vine to political commentaries.

Blog Rating Website:

Amatomu: The South African newspaper Mail and Guardian is hosting Amatomu, which advertises itself as “The South African blogosphere, sorted”. The sorting refers to the site’s ranked lists, which list blogs in terms of their popularity in terms of unique visitors. Amatomu is able to calculate this by asking participating bloggers to put a badge on their sites - by analyzing how many users see this badge, the system can calculate how many readers see the blog.

Blogs:

Institute for Security Studies (ISS) Blog. They generally publish resource of newsworthy items related to the activities of the ISS and research conducted by the Institute. These articles are generally "heavier" than most weblog posts.
The Abahlali website is published by a popular people movement. The Durban-basedshack-dwellers movement, Abahlali base Mjondolo was formed in 2006 to campaign against the forced removals of residents in the settlements which have existed for some 30 years. Abahlali is a movement of the “militant poor” in the province of KwaZulu Natal and includes thousands of residents in some 30 settlements.
