5 Myths Destroying Your Creativity

If you're a writer, student, business leader or individual am sure you share my value for creativity. i wrote this article for those who can appreciate-or at least learn to acknowledge the wisdom illustrated in the story of the guru and the underling :

"The follower sat with the guru asking for advise, the elder kept pouring tea, letting the cup overflow onto the floor. when the youngster finally inquired about the odd behavior the guru said " Son, you're so full of opinions i cant add anything else. you need first to empty your cup. then we'll begin ."

Emotion and intellect are two halves of a whole they are both important resources, one without the other is incomplete and noneffective. the following facts should support your efforts to generate creativity you and i so much desire.....

  1. Emotion is inferior, because it is more primitive than reason: there is no denying that the Amygdala (the part of the brain responsible for emotions), is a more ancient part of the evolving part of the human brain than the Neocortex (the part responsible for reasoning). This is a false statement , the emotional and rational parts of the brain have evolved together, in fact, are in constant feedback loop. through this cooperative partnership we achieve, creativity , empathy, sociability and unending Self-Knowledge .
  2. Emotions Dangerous : Emotional pain hurts-a lot.but feeling it wont kill you. quite the opposite in fact. just like physical pain emotional pain is a warning and it should be heeded, when its not emotional pain often becomes chronic physical pain, when people who suffer from migraines & headaches are taught to recognize and address emotionally charged events, for example the headaches often disappear .
  3. Self Control comes from "Stifling" Feelings  The behavior we condemn as inappropriate and anti-social has more to do with silencing than expressing emotion. for example, studies discredit the popular notion that anger is responsible for the aggressive behavior supposedly released by drinking alcohol. Psychologist G. Alan Marlantt concludes that the link between alcohol and anger is social rather than physiological. People use alcohol as they use anger : as permission to do something they want to do. Emotion is an irreplaceable resource; it tells us through instant physical feedback whether a decision or an action is right for us. Self-control does not come from controlling our feelings , but from Feeling Our Feelings.
  4. Good & Bad Emotions : All emotions come from the same part of the brain, and you cant cut off pain-full ones and still fully enjoy pleasant ones. All emotions are good : they're all informative and often constructive. Emotional pain can be a reminder to wake up, To pay attention to something in your life that needs to be changed. Sadness and grief enable us to experience loss in a way that permits the rebirth of energy and enthusiasm for life. All deeply felt emotions deliver messages we need to hear.
  5.  Emotions Clouds Your Judgment : We do our best work with less input from our neocortex. While intellect can tell us many things objectively, it can't tell us how we feel, and its our feelings that make our decisions Wise .
Meet my friend Frank :

Franks wife would like it if he would just remember to take out the garbage. Franks boss would love it if he would take out a little initiative and call a meeting when a problem arises instead of waiting for someone else to point it out. Franks Kids would love it if he would just ask them for once, to do something with him. Frank says he wishes he would do these things. He can see how easy they seem to others. He thinks about all the things he could or should do. And he doesn't do anything.

Franks Emotional Intelligence Lesson 101 :

Intelligence helps us recognize a range of actions but doesn't drive us to act, Emotion does.
